The lighter shore jigging has been working very well for us in Southern California, we've been able to get all of the local species off the surf with 10-20g jigs and these are the perfect hooks for them. The single assists work best on the back end of the jigs, depending on the species it can work better than a treble hook on the smaller jigs since they have a bigger curve. These are much better than rear treble hooks for catch and release fishing.
Since these are also stronger than some of stock hooks that come on the smaller jigs you can fish heavier line up without worrying about the hooks.
The smallest #3 size works well for jigs in that 10-20g range, the #2 works well for 20-40g and the #1 works well for 40-80g.
